Drumming Workshops

All workshops would be a similar structure to the therapeutic model below though the population with whom I work would reflect the methods and communication I use.

1hr workshops. Using the drum and percussion to relax and inspire participants in a safe environment with a sensitive facilitator, making in the moment music with no prior knowledge of music needed. All drums supplied. In a therapeutic setting there will be time to discuss and process any reverent feelings that have risen.

2hr Workshops. developing further with our circle music and also giving participants time to express there selves with movement and vocals. In this workshops will also create a sound bath. In a sound bath one volunteer will close there eyes in the center of the circle while the other participants ceremonially create a soundscape around him/her using exotic percussion. This freeing of the imagination to act ceremonially fulfills something primeval in the soul and can give great satisfaction.

3hr Workshops. now we are working with each person, with gentle encouragement we engage the person to dance like no one was looking. This workshop would be beneficial to those with a little more confidence or anyone willing to give it a go. Drawing on ancient and therapeutic traditions. Dancing to wild drumming becomes your medicine your road map to your own healing, depending on time we will use some of the techniques listed below in the all day workshop

drum circle workshopsAll day workshops
With more time we can go deepening into the process of change and healing. With this workshop we make a clear decision to work on our healing, this is where therapy becomes art.
Starting with how our body feels, we go with it, giving our spirit to communion, we dance our prayers to the sound of the drum, cradled by the circle and supported by a guide. The workshop also includes Sufi eye gazing meditation, group drama with music, a group laughter session and a sound bath, we will also spend time with anger expressing ourselves without hurting anyone around us. There will be time at the end to discuss and process any feelings and changes that might have come up.

Drumming Classes are fun an ecourage confidence

"The drum sessions facilitated by Darren were great therapy for the clients on our ward Several clients mentioned how the session help to release tension, help them to express themselves, and were also great fun. Darren was skilled involving clients with a range of abilities, so it gave clients chance to feel capable and feel part of a supportive group."

Vicki Aiken, occupational therapist. Lucille van geest. P, boro

"Darren facilitated a drum workshop on the ward on a regular basis. The group was popular among clients and most thought it help them express emotion in a more positive way. Clients who have been previously been low came out of the workshop smiling. Darren was always enthusiastic and motivated to engage clients in a positive way."
