Facilitating human potential through rhythm and movement, I have brought together my experience by starting monkey bongo in march earlier this year, which uses drumming, percussion, trance dance and meditation in a fun thought provoking way, its ideal for just about any group that, wants to enjoy a bonding experience and needs to let off some steam. In fact just one hour of drumming has been shown to lower blood pressure.
In our culture now we just don't have community sharing experience like we use too, from dancing with a partner, down to doing the oakey-cokey at a family party, our culture has become individualist, while this has some obvious advantages, and the benefits from community expression go deep into the universal core that lies deep down in all of us.
I do a kind of urban shamanic art that calls to the singer, the dancer, the drummer and the storyteller in all of us. As a group we reflect our truth to the space we create, that way we can learn the language of our souls calling.
I found my own calling through a breakdown, a complete collapse of ego identification. It was severe and keeps happing again and again. That is until I faced up and allowed the moment towards facilitating the human spirit creativity and divinity in its natural state.
An artist lies in all of us, and it needs to be fed from the big underbelly of potential. There is also the shadow-the repressed, angry, guilt ridded part of us. We hope the world doesn't witness - but if we shine a light on this with art, then we have a new way of building a relationship, a kinder look at our own darkness.
I have been working with people who have experience mental heath problems and developed a spirit of openness that has allowed healing to take place, and although subtle there have been optimism and real changes in confidence and liveliness. Clients are happy with the unknown as they find a home for their pain and joy.
I work with children and find their teaching me. I developing a programme for team building and welcome any request for a particular approach. I work with older people with dementia, singing the old songs, bathing them with exotic sounds. Sometimes their smile can say so much. Group take on an energy of there own and it doesn't take long for a jam to become really musical. All in all this work has become my life and my life is a whole lot better for it.
