rediscover your ancient past
Monkeybongo offer rhythm based events to diverse populations. We make in
the moment music with no prior knowledge of drumming required.
All drums and percussion are supplied and all this community sharing experience requires is a sense of fun and a wilingness to exercise your rhythmic muscles.
A drum circle is a group of people in a circle making improvised music with a facilitator guiding them through a series of musical cues. It is different from a samba band in that participants are not given specific rhythms to learn. People are free to explore their own creativity and their musical relationship within the group. The cues from the facilitator help ground, layer and structure the music. Participants find a simple drum or percussion phrase is enough to add to the endless rhythmic universe. This accessible approach makes music making fun and easy. This ancient way of celebrating community often leads to dancing singing and much mischief.
Established in 2005 serving Cambrideshire, Northants, Lincolnshire Leicestershire and the fens, founder Darren Goodale has been busy spreading the word of the power of group drumming.
